Burmester in semis, Norfolk misses out

Swimmer Moss Burmester has made it through to the semi-finals in the 200 metre butterfly after finishing third in his heat.

His time of 1.55.80 was the 10th fastest from the heats.

American swim sensation Michael Phelps set a new Olympic record winning his heat in 1.53.70, just over two seconds faster than Burmester.

However, a personal best time wasn't enough to secure the New Zealand swimmer Helen Norfolk a place in the semi-finals of the 200m individual medley at the Beijing Olympics.

Norfolk knocked half a second off her previous best time of two minutes and 14 seconds, but failed to make the top 16.

She had a disappointing start to the Games at the weekend when she failed to also get past the first round of the 400m individual medley.
