The New Zealand men's hockey team has scored a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over South Korea in their opening match at the Beijing Olympics.

Korea dominated the first half and led at half time, however the Black Sticks began to gain some control in the second half and then dominated after Hayden Shaw scored the first of his three goals from penalty corners.

Defender James Nations says they knew they could be competitive and would re able to turn it around after half time.

He says 50-50 balls that didn't go their way in the first half started to all their way and the Koreans began making mistakes under pressure.

The Black Sticks play Spain tomorrow night.
