Springbok coach accuses All Blacks of cheating

6:13 pm on 13 August 2008

The Springboks rugby coach Peter de Villiers is calling on Australian referee Matt Goddard to stop the All Blacks cheating in scrumns and lineouts in Sunday morning's Tri-Nations Test in Cape Town.

De Villiers says the Springboks are the world champions and their strengths are the scrum and lineout.

But he says the All Blacks try to neutralise that strength by cheating, especially in the lineout where they close the gap, try to take players out in the air and put a flanker through illegally on to the halfback.

De Villiers comments come as he lost one of his top lineout forwards. Lock Bakkies Botha is out with a knee injury.

The All Blacks team for the test is announced tonight.
