Rowing crews have mixed fortunes in semis

7:08 am on 14 August 2008

Three of the five New Zealand rowing crews in semi final action at the Olympic Games in Beijing have qualified for Saturday's finals.

The two casualties were women's single sculler Emma Twigg and the men's coxless four.

Twigg missed out after being involved in a photo finish in her semi final with a fast-finishing Poland and the men's coxless four also missed a finals berth by less than half a second in finishing fourth in their semi.

Men's single sculler Mahe Drysdale and men's double scullers Nathan Cohen and Rob Waddell were far from convincing in finishing third in their semi finals.

The men's coxless pair of Nathan Waddle and George Bridgewater finished second in their semi final.

These crews join women's pair Juliette Haigh and Nicky Coles and women's double sculls, Georgina and Caroline Evers Swindell in Saturday's finals.

Lightweight double scullers Storm Uru and Peter Taylor race their semi final tomorrow.
