Toulon prepared to reach settlement over SBW

11:03 am on 15 August 2008

Sonny Bill Williams' new French rugby club will seek a financial settlement with his former Sydney rugby league club to end the controversy over his decision to switch codes.

The runaway Bulldogs star was pulled at the last minute from Toulon's starting line up in a pre-season friendly match.

The decision comes after the NSW Supreme Court extended the injunction the Bulldogs and NRL sought to ban Williams from playing for Toulon.

If he'd played he risked being found in contempt of court and having his Australian assets seized, including his $1 million Sydney home.

Toulon's president Mourad Boudjellal says they don't want to "inflame the situation" and there'll be a settlement next week.
