Top sprinters make it through first round

All the big guns have progressed to the next round of the men's hundred metres on the opening day of athletics at the Beijing Olympics.

The 3 main contenders Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell of Jamaica and Tyson Gay of America all cruised into tonight's second round.

Meanwhile New Zealand heptathlete Rebecca Wardell is 33rd after her first event... She ran 14.07 seconds for the hurdles, which is her best time this season.

Wardell's next event is the high jump.
