Drysdale would have won if not for illness

Rowing bronze medalist Mahe Drysdale say he's not bitter about the stomach complaint that probably robbed him of gold at the Beijing Olympics on saturday night.

Radio New Zealand's reporter at the event says there is little doubt a fully fit Drysdale would have won the final.

He lost four kilograms during the week and that showed in his last two races when a lack of energy saw him fade in the last couple of hundred metres.

Drysdale says you have to learn to perform on the day not matter what and some advice from a New Zealand rowing stalwart helped.
