BMX delays after rain wets Beijing's clay track

The New Zealand Olympic team's next chance of adding to their medal haul of nine is on hold in Beijing.

Overnight rain has meant the BMX is delayed due to a wet clay track.

Marc Willers and Sarah Walker were scheduled to ride for New Zealand in the semi-finals of the first Games for BMX from one o'clock.

Walker qualified fourth behind two Frenchwomen and a British rider.

She says any one of them could win and, given the the nature of her event, riders can't take too many tactics into a race.

Walker says there's not much you can prepare for as anything can happen with eight people on the track.

It had looked like the women's BMX title would be decided among the four favourites in Beijing today.

Walker says a perfect lap is pretty rare and if all the riders in the competition were asked if they've had one, 99 percent would probably say they hadn't.
