Fouhy gets some mental rest ahead of final

Getting past his own self-doubt rather than his opponents is the biggest hurdle facing kayaker Ben Fouhy heading into tonight's K1 1000 final at the Beijing Olympics.

Four years ago Fouhy won silver at the Athens, going into the race as world champion -- but he's never been able to turn in another effort of that calibre and it's bothered him.

This year in particular he's been off the pace internationally and a disappointing performance in the heats only served to further fuel that self-doubt.

An improved semi-final performance has given him a much needed boost ahead of the final and stopped Fouhy being so hard on himself... to a degree.

But his Beijing experience has given him a new perspective on his achievement in Athens four years ago. He says just being with some of the other athletes who've been through tough times too has changed his perspective.
