The New Zealand olympic committee has praised the team's perfomance at the Beijing Games.

The Team to Beijing won the highest number of medals at an Olympic Games since 1992, with three gold, one silver and five bronze.

The team also won a record number of Olympic Diplomas at Beijing with 24 athletes finishing in the Top 8.

The NZOC secretary general Barry Maister says he is delighted with the strong performances from the New Zealand team.

He says there is no doubt the Games are a tough environment, and to have excelled at Beijing is a reflection on how well the athletes have prepared and performed.

The NZOC and SPARC will conduct a full review into the New Zealand's team's performance at the Olympic Games over the coming months.

New Zealand's 1000th Olympian, and the flag bearer for the closing ceremony, will be named at 9:30 (NZ time) today ahead of the Closing Ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
