The Melbourne Storm returned to the top of the National Rugby League table with a 40-6 win over Penrith on Monday night.
The Storm led 20-0 at halftime, the eight tries to one win reopening the Storm's two-point gap at the top of the standings.
They could nail down the minor premiership with one game in hand should they beat Newcastle on Saturday night and Manly and Cronulla both lose this weekend.
The Panthers need to win their remaining two matches and hope other results go their way if they are to secure a top eight finish.
The New Zealand Warriors remain in 10th after their weekend loss to the Dragons in Wollongong.
