The New Zealand tennis number one Marina Erakovic says she's disappointed to be out of the US Open after a first round defeat in straight sets by Pauline Parmentier of France.

Erakovic says she's now going to focus on the doubles at Flushing Meadows after losing 6-3 7-6.

The loss in New York continues her poor form since the French Open and Wimbledon. Erakovic also missed out in the first round of the Olympics.

The Olympic champion Elena Dementieva is Parmentier's next opponent, after a straight sets win in the Russian's first match.

The American Lindsay Davenport is also through along with the Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, David Ferrer of Spain and China's Li Na.
