The Frenchman Sebastian Loeb continues to eat into the Finnish driver Mikko Hirvonen's lead on day two of the Rally of New Zealand.

The championship leader Loeb is now just 6.8 seconds behind Ford's Hirvonen after two 2nds and a win on the three stages completed in the morning.

Loeb began the day 27.8 seconds behind.

Another Finn, Jari-Matti Latvala, won the third Franklin stage to consolidate his hold on third place while yet another Finn, Dani Sordo, is fourth overall.

Loeb, in a Citroen, won the second stage, which is named Possum in memory of the late Possum Bourne.
