Berbatov always wanted to go to United

The Bulgarian footballer Dimitar Berbatov says the opportunity of fulfilling a personal dream and winning trophies were the reasons he has signed for English champions Manchester United.

The striker, who turned down an offer from Old Trafford to join Tottenham from German side Bayer Leverkusen in 2006, says his only aim was to wear the United shirt and he's happy because now his dream of playing at the highest level has come true.

The Bulgaria captain joined English and European champions on a four-year contract for a club record fee of 80 million dollars shortly before the transfer window closed yesterday.

Despite Tottenham's reluctance to sell and an offer from Manchester City, Berbatov was determined to move to Old Trafford once he was aware of United's interest.

Berbatov could make his debut against Liverpool next week.
