Northland lodge appeal to stay in rugby's top tier

Northland's officially lodged its submission to remain in the top tier of New Zealand rugby.

Northland and Tasman are set to be dropped from the 14 team Air New Zealand cup from next year under a New Zealand rugby union review.

Northland chairman Wayne Peters says their NZRU's decision to leave them out was based in large part on financial and governance issues but is confident they can present a comprehensive financial plan for the next three years.

Nelson Bays are also lodging an appeal to keep the Tasman entry in the top tier.

The NZRU board will make its fianl decision at the end of the month.
