Murray carries huge burden into US Open final

6:05 am on 9 September 2008

Andy Murray has to cope with the burden of British tennis history and probably the greatest player of all time in this morning's US Open singles final in New York.

The 21 year old Scot is aiming to become the first British male to win a grand slam title since Fred Perry won the US Open 72 years ago.

The American legend John McEnroe is tipping the defending champion Federer to win, but he's been very impressed by Murray's form in New York, including his semi-final win over the top seed Rafael Nadal.

Murray has beaten Federer twice in their three meetings to date.

The final starts at 9 o'clock this morning.
