Dean close second in 2nd stage of Tour of Britain

The New Zealand cyclist Julian Dean has finished a close second in stage 2 of the Tour of Britain.

Dean avoided a crash, but was then pipped in a sprint finish to the 145km stage from Milton Keynes to Newbury by Australian Matthew Goss... with another New Zealander Greg Henderson 5th.

Italian Alessandro Petacchi, retains the overall leader's yellow jersey after a sixth-place finish, while Dean is 2 secojnd behind him in 6th place.

The 8-stage race finishes at the weekend.

Dean is using this event as a part of his buildup to the world road championships in Italy at the end of the month.
