NFL match delayed because of storm

11:57 am on 12 September 2008

The NFL has moved the Houston Texans' home game against the Baltimore Ravens from Sunday to Monday night due to the expected arrival of Hurricane Ike in the area in the next 24 hours.

The NFL announced the switch in a statement saying the move would allow the area to "focus on recovery" from the expected storms.

It could be the worst storm to hit the Texas coast since Hurricane Carla came ashore near Corpus Christi in 1961.

The two million-plus residents of Houston, about 50 miles inland from Galveston, could see hurricane-force winds but officials have not ordered widespread evacuations.
