Germany's Sebastian Vettel has secured his and Toro Rosso's first Formula One pole position at the Italian Grand Prix.

In a rain-soaked qualifying the 21-year-old has become the youngest driver to earn pole since the championship started in 1950.

McLaren's overall leader Lewis Hamilton qualified 15th.

Ferrari's world champion Kimi Raikkonen will be one place ahead of him.

Brazilian team mate, Felipe Massa, just two points behind Hamilton with five races remaining, will start his team's home race in sixth place.

McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen will join Vettel on the front row.
