NRL bets off as Broncos face sex assault probe

9:02 am on 16 September 2008

In the wake of news of a police investigation into an alleged sexual assault involving three Brisbane Broncos players, the New Zealand TAB has suspended all National Rugby League betting.

Bookmakers in Australia have suspended betting on the grand final as well as Brisbane's clash with Melbourne on Saturday night.

But the TAB's gone further and all bets on the NRL are on hold, although the book on the Warriors' semi-final against the Roosters on Friday will open later today or tomorrow.

The TAB's senior bookmaker Paul Maoate says they'll just have to wait and see what the investigation turns up.

Maoate says the police timetable for investigating the allegations doesn't run in line with betting agencies, so they'll just have to sit and wait.
