Medhurst ready to return

3:32 pm on 18 September 2008

The sidelined Australian shooter Natalie Medhurst has declared herself fit to play in Saturday's second netball Test in Auckland if she's required.

It's a welcome surprise for coach Norma Plummer after her side's 53-51 victory over the Silver Ferns in Christchurch last night.

Plummer was again facing the eality of being without three of her front-line shooters after an ankle injury sidelined Catherine Cox.

Medhurst has recovered quickly from surgery to remove her appendix and Plummer says she could join the team if Cox isn't fit.

With shooter Sharelle McMahon out for the international season, Plummer says she was not willing to risk further injury to Cox by playing her in last night's match.

If Cox is unavailable for the second Test, Plummer will rely on Susan Pratley, Kate Beveridge and the uncapped Caitlin Thwaites.
