Canterbury have consolidated their second place in the Air New Zealand Cup with a 37-13 victory over Bay of Plenty in Christchurch.

Canterbury scored their bonus-point 4th try before half-time leading 23-13 at the break against the 4th placed side.

The match evened out when the Canterbury flanker George Whitelock was sin-binned on the hour, however Canterbury finished strongly scoring their 6th try just before full-time.

Returning Canterbury first five-eighths Stephen Brett scored a try but managed just 1 penalty and 2 conversions with the boot.

Canterbury now have 33 points, 2 behind Wellington who challenge Auckland for the Ranfurly Shield tomorrow night.... Bay of Plenty remain 4th with 24 points.
