Europe's Ryder Cup captain Nick Faldo has dropped two of his top players, Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia, from the foursomes matches against the United States at the Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky.

The Americans lead the biennial team competition golf tournament 5-½ to 2-½ after the opening day's fourball matches.

Faldo retained two pairings for tomorrow's foursomes: the Britons Ian Poulter and Justin Rose with Ireland's Padraig Harrington partnering the Swede Robert Karlsson.

The new combinations are Miguel Angel Jimenez with Britain's Graeme McDowell and Sweden's Henrik Stenson with the British rookie Oliver Wilson in his first match.
