What future would the Ranfurly Shield have in Tasman

The CEO of the Tasman Rugby Union Peter Barr says what may happen to the Ranfurly Shield if they're successful in their challenge against Wellington this weekend, is probably more of an issue for the New Zealand Rugby Union than them.

Tasman have appealed the decision of the NZRU to drop them from the Air New Zealand Cup with the prospect that the Union could revert back to the Nelson Bays and Marlborough Unions in the second division.

How the Shield would then be defended if that were to happen would likely cause some debate.

Tasman's appeal case will be heard this week and Barr says if they were good enough to take the Ranfurly Shield off Wellington on Saturday then it may cause a few more headaches for the national body....
