The Italian cyclist Adriano Malori has brought home the first gold medal for the hosts by winning the men's under 23 time trial at the World Road Cycling Championships in Varese.
Malori finished 33 and a half kilometre course almost one minute ahead of Germany's Patrick Gretsch with Australian Cameron Meyer taking the bronze.
New Zealand's Clinton Avery was 41st, 3 minutes 18 behind the winner.
The elite women's time trial is tonight.
