The Australian midfielder Tim Cahill will miss three English Premier League matches after Everton failed in their bid to overturn the red card he received in Sunday's Merseyside derby.
Cahill will be suspended for matches against Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United.
He was sent off "serious foul play" after a challenge on Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.
