History against Manly heading into Sunday's NRL grand final

7:07 pm on 3 October 2008

Fifty four years of rugby league grand final history is against Manly going into Sunday's NRL final against reigning champions Melbourne in Sydney.

This weekend's encounter is a repeat of last year's grand final but history shows getting revenge over your grand final conquerer is rarely achieved.

In the six previous grand final repeats, only once have the runners-up managed to triumph the following year.

That was in 1991 when Penrith reversed their 1990 defeat by Canberra.

Manly prop Jason King believes the Sea Eagles can turn the tide and says the 2008 team is ready and capable of wresting the title off Melbourne and the fact they've made the final is not satisfaction enough.
