Australia plunge before avoiding follow on

6:13 am on 5 October 2008

The Australian cricket side came within a wicket of following-on in their four day match against the Indian Board President's XI in Hyderabad.

A fearful collapse of 5-19 in 64 balls in the first hour of the third day had the tourists within one wicket of embarrassment.

So the Australians were greatly indebted to Michael Hussey,126 not out, and Stuart Clark, who made 44, their partnership of 96 taking the side past the follow-on mark of 306 runs and the innings finished at 314.

The Board President's XI will resume on the final day at 110 for two, an overall lead of 251.
