Wallaby great applauds Braid signing

The Wallabies' star flanker George Smith says Queensland's historic signing of the All Black loose forward Daniel Braid can only benefit Australian rugby.

Smith has applauded Queensland's initiative in signing Braid as the first overseas-born marquee player contracted under the Australian Rugby Union's new foreign player policy, which allows the four provinces to sign an international, who is ineligible for Australian selection.

Smith said the deal took him by surprise, but it was great to hear, and he says last year's New Zealand's Super 14 player of the year will be able to pass on his intellectual property to the Queensland Reds.
