Hopes rise up rankings will help playing better opposition

The coach of the New Zealand football side Ricki Herbert hopes his side's dramatic rise up the world rankings will boost its chances of playing more internationals.

The All Whites have shot up 57 places in the latest FIFA world rankings to 54th - their highest ranking since 2002.

Herbert says the team's higher profile will make them more attractive opponents for the stronger Asian nations.

It'll also benefit players seeking contracts with European clubs, with front line players eligible for work permits in England if their national team is ranked in the world's top 70.
