IOC to retest thousands of Olympic drug samples

The International Olympic Committee is going to retest all 5,000 doping samples taken from athletes at the Beijing Games in an effort to detect a new generation of the blood-boosting drug EPO.

The announcement comes after French laboratories developed a new test for the hormone known as CERA among frozen blood samples taken during cycling's Tour de France in July.

Meanwhile French drug testers are continuing to screen samples from riders who competed in this year's Tour de France and expect to announce more positive results despite the race ending three months ago.
