7:01 am on 11 October 2008

The New Zealand motor racing team,Team Kiwi Racing, is working intensely to try and get on the start line for tomorrow's Bathurst 1000 at Mt Panorama.

Their V8 Ford suffered major damage in a spectacular crash on top of the mountain in practice when driver Chris Pither collided at full speed with another vehicle which had stopped across the track.

Pither walked away from the crash.

First indications were they would take no further part in the weekend but the TKR crew spent several hours pulling the car to pieces before deciding to attempt the rebuild.

Team owner, David John, says the entire front end of the car has to be replaced and they won't know till later today if they will make tomorrow's iconic race.
