Silver Ferns thump England in first test

7:03 am on 14 October 2008

The prospect of another stern test never eventuated as the Silver Ferns thumped England 65-26 in the first netball test in Auckland.

England beat the New Zealanders 2 years ago, but that was never going to be repeated as the Ferns raced away with the match from the opening whistle.

England were outplayed in every department and they had little to offer on attack with goal attack Pamela Cookey only shooting 30 per cent before she was taken off in the final quarter.

Coach Ruth Aitken moved Irene van Dyk to goal attack in place of Maria Tutaia at half-time, and brought on Daneke Wipiiti at goal shoot... but she says she didn't want to make wholesale changes during the match, as she wanted to keep their structure.

The second test is in Dunedin tomorrow night with the third and final match in Palmerston North on Saturday night.
