Spin to dominate first test in Chittagong

6:20 am on 17 October 2008

The New Zealand cricketers will bank on spin to beat Bangladesh in the two-test series starting in Chittagong today.

The Black Caps have added off-spinner Jeetan Patel to the starting line-up alongside left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori while uncapped batsman Jesse Ryder has also been included.

Captain Vettori says they're well covered in the spinning options and if they play on the same pitch where they played the third ODI then it'll be slow..... he believes it could also crumble later in the match.

Vettori took 12 wickets when New Zealand last played test match in Bangladesh in 2004.... that's the last time they played a test in the subcontinent.

Bangladesh, who have won just one of their 53 tests, also named two spinners -- Abdur Razzak and Shakib Al Hasan -- beside spinning all-rounders Mehrab Hossain and Naeem Islam.

The New Zealand lineup is Aaron Redmond, Jamie How, Jessie Ryder, Ross Taylor, Daniel Flynn, Brendon McCullum, Jacob Oram, Daniel Vettori, Kyle Mills, Jeetan Patel and Ian O'Brien.

Play starts just after 4:30.
