It's been confirmed Wellington batsman Jesse Ryder will make his test cricket debut this afternoon when the first test between New Zealand and Bangladesh gets underway in Chittagong.

Ryder, a one day opener, is likely to bat at three with Aaron Redmond and Jamie How opening the innings and Ross Taylor at four.

The Black Caps will take two specialist pace bowlers Kyle Mills and Iain O'Brien into the match with O'Brien getting the nod ahead of Southee.

All rounder Jacob Oram is third pace option with skipper Dan Vettori and fellow spinner Jeetan likely to get plenty of time at the bowling crease.

The full team is: Vettori, Redmond, How, Ryder, Taylor, Brendon McCullum, Daniel Flynn, Oram, Mills, Patel and O'Brien.
