The New Zealand mare Princess Coup was never in it as Maldivian won the world's richest weight-for-age race, the $3.5 million Cox Plate in Melbourne.
Princess Coup was tipped as one of the favourites but the Kelt Capital Stakes winner finished well down the field as Maldivian, a six-year-old gelding, held off the fast-finishing Zipping and the highly-fancied filly Samantha Miss.
