Hanks to help Wasps

The Waikato rugby coach Tony Hanks has been appointed as a coach for the English club Wasps to work alongside director of rugby Ian McGeechan and head coach Shaun Edwards.

37-year-old Hanks will join the London club next week and remain in High Wycombe until March.

He is expected to lighten McGeechan's workload when he is on Lions duty and help Edwards, who will be away with Wales on a part-time basis.

Hanks succeeded Warren Gatland as Waikato head coach when the former Wasps supremo left to become Wales head coach.

He had previously worked closely alongside Gatland during a three-year stint as Waikato's assistant coach.
