Purser leads Charles tour Shirley Open

The Hamilton profesional golfer Mark Purser leads the Charles Tour Shirley Open by one stroke heading into the second day at the Christchurch Golf Club.

Purser's opening 67, five-under par, has him ahead of leading Canterbury amateur, Sam Ma, from the host club.

Alone in third place on 69 is New Plymouth's Grant Moorhead, the order of merit leader on the New Zealand PGA tour.

The United States based Phil Tataurangi produced a first day 76.

The leading woman is Wellington number one Lucy Davis, with 78, three shots better than New Zealand world Espirito Santo representative, Dana Kim, from the home club, and Norhtland's Sunny Namkoong.
