Breakers post first away win on Gold Coast

7:27 am on 26 October 2008

The New Zealand Breakers basketball team are back to winning ways on the road, beating the Gold Coast Blaze by just three points.

It was the luckless - and winless - Blaze's ninth successive Australian National Basketball League loss.

The home side fought to within a single point in the dying seconds of the game before a desperate foul denied them their chance in a 116-113 thriller.

Kirk Penney top scored for the visitors with 30 points.

The Breakers' first away win comes after they lost twice to the Cairns Taipans and sees them back up to second on the ANBL ladder.

The Breakers host the Wildcats next week in Auckland.
