The Euro 2008 champions Spain provide six of the contenders in FIFA's list of 23 nominations for their World Player of the Year award.
Goalkeeper Iker Casillas, midfielders Cesc Fabregas, Andres Iniesta and Xavi and strikers David Villa and Fernando Torres all made the list published by world football's governing body.
Last year's winner, the Brazilian playmaker Kaka, is in the running again along with Manchester United's Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ten of the 23 play in the Premier League and the English players nominated are Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and Chelsea's Frank Lampard and John Terry.
Nnational team coaches and captains will vote for a top three to be named in December with the
winner to be annnounced at FIFA's World Player Gala in Zurich on January 12.
