12:17 pm on 1 November 2008

The Samoan rugby league side has taken a big step towards the World Cup semi-finals with a 20-12 win over arch rival Tonga in Penrith.

Samoa will clinch their pool if they beat Ireland in the last pool match at Parramatta next Wednesday.

The clash featured plenty of rugged defence and jarring hits, plus the occasional high tackle.

Making their first appearance of the tournament, Samoa took an early 10-0 lead and dominated most of the second half.
