Japan have emerged as a favourite for the Fifa under 17 women's football world cup after again showing superb attack in their latest match.

After putting 3 past the United States, the Japanese have beaten another of the pre-tournament favourites 7-1 in Hamilton.

The USA and France will now play for the other qualifying position from Group C.

England progressed to the quarter-finals with a 1-nil win over Nigeria while South Korea beat Brazil 2-1 to leave the South Americans with 2 losses.

The tournament resumes tomorrow with Ghana and North Korea aiming to join Germany as Group B quarterfinalists.

In Group A leaders Denmark and Canada clash for one quarterfinal spot, with the loser hoping New Zealand can deny third placed Colombia victory in Wellington.
