Kumble makes dignifiied exit in Delhi

8:21 am on 3 November 2008

The retirement announcement of the Indian cricket captain Anil Kumble was the talk of the third test against Australia which finished in a boring draw yesterday in New Delhi.

In the wake of the clamour for Kumble to make way for the wicketkeeper/batsman and natural leader Mohendri Dhoni to take over, the 38 year old leg spinner was given the honour of a dignified farewell on the ground where he reached a personal peak, his 10 wickets for 74 to win a test against Pakistan in 1999.

Test cricket's third highest wicket taker had suffered an injury to his left hand which required 11 stitches, during the test in New Delhi.

India lead the 4-test series against Australia 1-nil, and the deciding match starts in Nagpur on Thursday.
