Track remains an issue ahead of Melbouren Cup

Light rain in Melbourne today is likely to ease some tension among trainers heading into tomorrow's Melbourne Cup.

On Saturday one of the connections of Irish favourite, Septimus, threatened to scratch the horse if the Flemington course remained firm.

There have been suggestions that the club is pandering too much to the European entries, of which there are half a dozen running this year.

New Zealander Murray Baker, who has Nom de Jeu running tomorrow, believes the issue will be settled diplomatically and even he doesn't want to see the rock hard track which greeted them 5 years ago....
