Changes to Springbok jersey

7:28 am on 4 November 2008

The South African Rugby Union have taken a decision to recognise the Protea as the national emblem and move the Springbok off the heart of the national rugby jersey.

The team will still be known as the Springboks and they will continue to wear that emblem alongside the King Protea flower on the national playing jersey.

The Protea wil be bigger than the Springbok on the national rugby jersey.

The Boks, who begin their northern hemisphere tour against Wales this weekend, are currently wearing a star on the jersey too to signify their stand against racism.

The new jerseys are unlikely to be worn for the first time until next year.
