The Kiwi rugby league coach Stephen Kearney has made five changes from the side that beat Papua New Guinea for Saturday night's World Cup match against England in Newcastle.

Prop Evarn Tuimavave will make his test debut, replacing captain Nathan Cayless, who is being rested.

Melbourne back-rower Jeremy Smith will captain the side, as he did against Tonga in Auckland last month.

The other change in the starting pack sees David Fa'alogo promoted from the interchange bench to replace second rower Setaimata Sa, with David Kidwell coming onto the bench.

There are two changes in the backline, where winger Jason Nightingale replaces Sam Perrett while Steve Matai returns at centre for Krisnan Inu.

Wests Tigers forward Bronson Harrison will play his first test in three years, taking his place on the interchange bench for Sam Rapira.
