The New Zealand golfer Mark Brown has made a solid start to the 8.2 million dollar Champions tournament in Shanghai which is doubling as the first official event of the 2009 European tour.

Brown, who's almost certain to win the money honours on this year's Asian tour, shot a one under par 71.

The Swedish star Henrik Stenson fired a 65 to lead by one stroke from three of the world's top 10 players Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia and Anthony Kim, and Australia's Adam Scott.
