Japan's coach John Kirwan says rugby's power-brokers would be foolish not to hold the 2015 World Cup in Asia.

Japan lost out to New Zealand for the 2011 tournament but former All Blacks winger says an Asian country should be selected ahead of England and other rivals for the next one.

Kirwaqn says if rugby wants to make itself a a serious global contender for the sports market it has to come to Asia, where Japan is the top rugby nation.

Kirwan doesn't think Japan can expect to be "due" the 201t tournament because it missed out last time ands there's still a lot of work to do was breaking down old stereotypes among the game's establishment.

He says Japan already has the infrastructure, isn't as expensive for tourists as many think, and the tournament will make money in the world's second richest economy.
