The Queensland Police Commissioner says an independent review of sexual assault allegations against three Brisbane Broncos rugby league players has found there is insufficient evidence to lay charges.

A 24-year-old woman had claimed she was assaulted in the toilet of a nightclub in September.

Police questioned Karmichael Hunt, Darius Boyd and Sam Thaiday about the alleged incident.

The trio have been fined 20 thousand dollars each by the Broncos for bringing the game into disrepute.

The three will also have to undergo a counselling course "conducted by an external and independent body that covers all facets of acceptable social behaviour.

National Rugby League chief executive David Gallop said the action taken by the club was significant.
