The New Zealand basketballer Sean Marks is set to get his first taste of action in the new NBA season.

Marks has been sidelined since the second day of camp 2 months ago, first by a right calf strain and later by a right hamstring pull.

However he's had his first significant workouts of the season as the New Orlean Hornets prepare for a tough stretch of games this week against the Los Angeles Lakers, Portland Trail Blazers and Houston Rockets.

Coach Byron Scott says he had to slow Marks down on some things during practice such was his enthusiasim.

Scott says he's unlikely to go all out with the centre/forward, but he looked very good.

He says the main thing is to get him use to the offence, build his stamina and get the leg stronger.

Marks has had limited time on court in his previous 8 years in the League with Toronto, Miami, San Antonio and Phoenix.

The Hornets have won 4 and lost 2 so far this season.
